BIO
Justin Vale is a Consultant Urological Surgeon with a specialist interest in urological cancer. He was appointed as a consultant at St Mary's NHS Trust in 1994, and since then has developed an interest in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. In 2004 he started the first robotic prostatectomy programme in the UK in conjunction with colleagues in West London, and recently expanded this to include robotic nephron-sparing surgery for early renal cancer. He was promoted to Honorary Reader in Urology at Imperial College London in 2012, and Adjuvant Professor in 2013. From 2008-2013 he served as Director of Surgery and Cancer (Clinical Programme Group 2) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Academic interests include robotic surgery, and volume-outcome research in urological surgery. He is a principal investigator in the LopeRA trial of randomisation between laparoscopic, open and robotic assisted radical prostatectomy.
Justin has a strong interest in medical publishing and, amongst other editorial roles, he started the British Journal of Medical and Surgical Urology in 2008 and was it's Editor in Chief from 2008-2012.
