BIO

Dr. Qiu obtained PhD degree in optical engineering and have developed various optical sensing/imaging instruments for biomedical applications, with proven track record of paper publishing in Adv. Sci., Anal. Chem, Opt. Express, Opt. Lett, etc. He is expertise in design and manufacturing of miniaturised flexible multi-modal fiber-optics probe, providing visualisation of structural (optical coherence tomography, OCT), functional (OCT/fluorescence) and chemical (fluorescence/Raman) changes of disease which are often hard to see with naked eyes. Widefield modalities such as multispectral imaging (MSI) or hyperspectral imaging (HSI) complement to those probe-based technologies due to large field of view, which is essential for probe navigation to the suspected lesions. He joined Helen Hamlyn Centre recently and is working on intra-operative MSI, emphasising on data-driven hardware design and task-oriented joint-optimisation of hardware & software. With close collaboration with neurosurgeons, he is dedicated to collecting evidence and accelerating deployment of latest optical technologies that are potentially useful in operating theatre, ultimately materialising his knowledge into products which will benefit a wider community.
