MrJoseph Ovwemuvwose

Joseph Ovwemuvwose is a Research Assistant (PostDoc) at Imperial College London, working with Professor Heather Graven and Professor Colin Prentice. His work focuses on developing models to simulate and evaluate carbon exchanges, compared with atmospheric CO2 and isotope data, to study water use efficiency, carbon turnover, and other ecophysiological processes. His work also covers the carbon-water-climate nexus and how it is affected by anthropogenic activities. He also evaluates models developed by institutions participating in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) and Trends in Net Land Carbon Exchange (TRENDY) project, which coordinates the international modelling initiative involving the Dynamic Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs) that are run each year to support the Global Carbon Budget (GCB).

Joseph’s previous research experience involved developing a portable nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) device for measuring water use efficiency and carbon allocation at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and the Université de Montpellier in France. He has a master's degree from the University of Nottingham, where he studied various aspects of plants' gene and environmental interactions, using molecular bioloy biology techniques with a focus on the link between genotype and phenotype interactions, using genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to map single-nucleotide polymorphisms to phenotypic variation in plants.

Joseph Ovwemuvwose's work and experiences place him in the field of environmental biophysics, where he explores gene-environment interactions at scales ranging from the gene to the globe. 

His interests include cycling, poetry, science communication, programming, algorithm development, and creative scientific storytelling.
