I am the Solar Orbiter MAG Data Scientist and am responsible for the calibration and delivery of the magnetometer data.  Solar Orbiter is a £1 billion+ joint satellite mission between the European Space Agency and NASA. It was launched in February 2020 to perform unprecedented close-up observations of the Sun and the solar wind, including studying the polar regions for the very first time. The magnetometer is a key instrument on board the satellite, with the magnetic field being a fundamental parameter for understanding almost all aspects of plasma dynamics, such as shocks. The magnetometer data is used in ~1-2 published papers per week. I have deep domain expertise in the analysis and interpretation of spacecraft magnetometer data. I also regularly maintain and update the data pipeline, written in MATLAB and Python, and process data on the HPC systems at Imperial.
