Joachim Marti is a Lecturer in Health Economics in the Centre for Health Policy at the Institute of Global Health Innovation.

His research spans the areas of empirical policy evaluation, decision modelling and behavioural economics. He has particular interests in the use of natural experiments to assess the causal impact of treatments and public health interventions, in combining insights from psychology and economics to better understand individual decision-making, and in improving economic evaluation methods, with a focus on outcome measurement and inequalities.

After completing his PhD at the University of Neuchtel in Switzerland, Joachim was awarded a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship and pursed his research in the Department of Health Policy and Administriation at the Yale School of Public Health. He then spent two years as a Lecturer at the University of Leeds, where he taught pre- and post-graduate Health Economics and acted as the lead health economist on multi-disciplinary projects in various areas, including intensive care and oncology.

His current research projects include work in patient safety, end-of-life care, real-world treatment effectiveness, causal inference and tobacco regulation.
