ProfessorJoao Magueijo

João Magueijo teaches two courses in the MSc in Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces programme at Imperial College London. One is a demanding course in Quantum Electrodynamics, designed as a broad and technically ambitious introduction to one of the central structures of modern theoretical physics. The other is Relativity and Cosmology, a course he developed from scratch with an original approach linking general relativity and gauge theories, and using cosmology as a training ground for the abstract concepts introduced.

Alongside formal lecturing, he has supervised a large number of MSc and MSci research projects across cosmology, gravitation, quantum field theory and related areas of theoretical physics. His teaching is closely connected to his research practice, with project students often working directly on problems arising from his current research.
