BIO
Jonathan Jeffers is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Associate Dean for Enterprise in the Engineering faculty.
He works at the interface of engineering and medicine with a vision to improve surgical treatment of osteoarthritis through research. His career has several crossovers between industry and academia. He is currently on sabbatical to OSSTEC Ltd, a start-up company that is using additive manufacturing to create bone health preserving knee implants. In 2019 he co-founded Additive Instruments, a company that created a battery powered surgical impactor tool that was acquired in 2023. Prior to that, he was part of the Embody Orthopaedic ceramic hip resurfacing design team - this implant was CE marked in 2024 and is now being commercially launched across Europe. Before he started at Imperial, he learnt medical device product development at Finsbury Orthopaedics where he was inspired to pursue a career in this sector.
Jonathan has a Mechanical Engineering degree from Trinity College, Dublin and a PhD from the University of Southampton.
