BIO
Dr Jose Escribano is an Assistant Professor in Aviation & Logistics within the Department for Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. Dr Escribano’s research currently focuses in two main domains: modelling and optimisation of humanitarian operations for disaster response and resilience, and developing AI-based manned and unmanned airspace management systems.
Dr Escribano completed his bachelor’s in engineering with First Class honours in 2015 and obtained his doctoral degree in 2021 at Imperial College London. He has authored publications at high-impact journals, receiving the Best Paper Award at the Transportation Research Board in 2023. He is affiliated member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Operational Research Society. Dr Escribano is also a holder of the JSPS fellowship on the modelling of urban evacuation procedures and has worked as consultant for the United Nations World Food Programme in the development of UAV coordination model to improve the safety, efficiency and standardisation of UAV deployments in humanitarian contexts.
Dr Escribano’s contributions include the development of operational and planning methodologies for humanitarian response processes. In particular, Dr Escribano is interested in incorporating the value of information into the decision-making process through endogenous stochastic modelling and the integration of new technologies, such as UAS, to enhance societal resilience. Within the airspace domain, Dr Escribano is developing safety models to assess the likelihood of disruption and ensure UAS management system conform with the fundamental requirements to operate within urban, rural, and shared airspace. Dr Escribano utilises optimisation, machine learning and simulation.
