BIO
Dr. José Ángel Álvarez Vázquez is an Alicia Koplowitz Fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Division of Psychiatry, Department of Brain Sciences, Imperial College London. He also holds an honorary clinical contract with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.
His clinical and research interests focus on early intervention and prevention in youth mental health, particularly mood instability, self-harm behaviours and eating disorders in young people.
Dr. Álvarez Vázquez graduated in Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid and completed his Psychiatry training at the University Hospital of Ferrol. He has undertaken placements at Hospital Clínic and Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona and the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires.
During his residency, he was awarded a Fundación María José Jove Scholarship to train at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital(Barcelona) and a Spanish Society of Psychiatry (SEP) Scholarship to undertake an international rotation at the Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires, focusing on the psychotherapeutic treatment of eating disorders. He also collaborates in the Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) school-based suicide prevention programme and has participated in digital innovation projects such as Galena Databook, recognised in national health awards.
He was awarded the Fellowship for Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the Alicia Koplowitz Foundation to continue his clinical and research work at Imperial College London.
