James Allinson is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at NHLI and a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Dr Allinson graduated in 2002 from St Peter’s College, University of Oxford and completed his postgraduate training at Oriel College, University of Oxford in 2005. He trained in respiratory and general medicine in London and was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London in 2018. He leads research exploring how COPD and lung health develops across the life course aiming to find ways to improve the treatment of those with established disease.

Dr Allinson co-chairs the Global Lung Function Initiative (GLI) which brings together ​physiologists, respirologists, epidemiologists and statisticians to improve how lung function tests are ​interpreted.
