BIO

Dr Iain Stewart is an Advanced Research Fellow in the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, where he leads research integrating multiomics, advanced analytics and digital health technologies to understand the mechanisms of progressive lung disease. His work focuses on identifying biologically meaningful disease endotypes and translating these findings into more precise approaches to diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.

Originally trained in functional genomics and developmental biology, he subsequently specialised in medical statistics and translational data science. His research spans fibrotic morbidities, using genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and clinical datasets to investigate disease progression, symptom burden and therapeutic response. He collaborates extensively with experts in functional studies to support translational impact. He serves in leadership roles across several national and international research programmes and has established a distinctive programme of work across pulmonary fibrosis and precision medicine.

Dr Stewart is Statistical Editor for Thorax, Deputy Editor of BMJ Open Respiratory Research, and a chartered statistician with honorary roles at Guy's St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Sydney. His long-term research vision is to combine systems biology, artificial intelligence and translational experimentation to deliver precision medicine approaches for people living with chronic respiratory disease.
