DrHamish Beath

Hamish is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Environmental Policy and is affiliated with the Hitachi-Imperial Centre for Decarbonisation and Natural Climate Solutions. He is currently based in Professor Joeri Rogelj's research group with researchers working broadly on climate science, policy and litigation.

His work in this position is focused on societal transitions (e.g. changing levels of energy demand, changing diets or alternative energy systems) and their impact on climate change mitigation outcomes. His work considers the impacts and feasibility of climate mitigation scenarios and their implications for specific sectors and countries.

Previously, Hamish completed a postdoctoral research position within the Department of Physics at Imperial College, developing open-source research software, and conducting exploratory research on the potential for Agrivoltaics in sub-Saharan Africa.

Hamish completed his PhD at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment as part of the Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet doctoral training partnership. The topic of his PhD was developing open-source software tools for addressing sustainable electricity access (SDG7). His supervisors were Professor Jenny Nelson, Dr Ajay Gambhir and Dr Sheridan Few.
