MrMuhammad Habiburrahman

Muhammad Habiburrahman (Habib) is currently pursuing his PhD in the Clinical Medicine Research Programme (Surgery and Cancer) at Imperial College. He is based at the Hammersmith Campus, working within the Translational Epigenomics group at the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology (IRDB). Under the supervision of Professor James Flanagan and Professor Iain McNeish, his research topic involves clinically validating blood-based DNA methylation biomarkers in ovarian cancer patients. 

Prior to joining Imperial, Habib earned his Bachelor of Medical Science (B.MedSci) and Medical Doctor (MD) degrees from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia (Jakarta, Indonesia) in 2021. He graduated with honours, ranking 6th in his batch, and completed his clinical clerkship at Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (CMH), a national referral hospital for catastrophic and rare diseases, including cancer. During his time in medical school, Habib gained experience in leadership and project management through various opportunities. He served as a research fellow in the Oncology division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as in the Department of Anatomical Pathology at CMH for 2.5 years, where he developed his research skills and deepened his interest in cancer.

Habib has a broad range of research interests, including gynecologic oncology, obstetrics, cancer biology, tumour markers, pathology, personalised medicine, and clinical epidemiology. He has published several studies on these topics, including ovarian cancer survival analysis, insulin resistance in ovarian cancer, biomarkers in breast cancer, cervical cancer and HPV vaccination understanding, inflammatory markers in vulvar cancer, and trend analysis on oral cancer and colorectal cancer.

He recently received a Dean's Internship Award from the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College. Habiburrahman was also recognised as the best oral presenter at the 1st Drug Research Network Conference (September 2024) and the 18th London Surgical Symposium in London (March 2024), as well as the 2nd International Conference on Mining Occupational Safety and Health in Bali, Indonesia (October 2019). Additionally, he received an award for his community engagement projects at the 4th ASEAN Student Collaborative Project in Brunei Darussalam (August 2019).

As part of his PhD, Habib presented his research poster and gave a speed talk oral presentation at the Clinical Epigenetics International Conference (CLEPIC) in Poland (June 2024). In July 2024, he presented a poster on gynaecological cancer and COVID-19 in Indonesia at the British Gynaecological Cancer Society (BGCS) Annual Meeting in Liverpool. Additionally, he presented a research poster at the Asia Oceania Research Organisation on Genital Infections and Neoplasia (AOGIN) virtual meeting in April 2021.
