I am the Shell Professor of Petroleum Geology, a position that I have held since 1993 (from 1993-2002 this was the Enterprise Oil Chair). I am also Head of the Petroleum Geoscience & Engineering Section and Director of the M.Sc. Petroleum Geoscience course. My current research interests are in clastic depositional systems and their application to the description and modelling of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs. I have been involved in various aspects of petroleum industry, initially during 15 years with Shell, including research, exploration and production geology and petroleum engineering. I deliver a range of geoscience courses, including Development Geology, Applied Sedimentology and Reservoir Characterisation and Modelling. I am a co-author of the textbooks Sedimentary Environments and Facies (Ed. by H.G. Reading) and Petroleum Geology of the North Sea: Basic Concepts and Recent Advances (Ed. by K.W. Glennie). I received a BSc in Geology from the University of Liverpool and went on to receive a DPhil in Sedimentology from the University of Oxford.
