Research Interests:
My primary research interest is in measuring and understanding variability in the Earth's radiation budget, both in terms of the total integrated energy and its spectral variation. I have a particular interest in how the high resolution temporal, spatial and spectral behaviour of Earth's outgoing radiation links to the processes driving climate variability and change. As part of this work I am PI for the Geostationary Earth Radiation Budget instrument, flying on the Meteosat Second Generation of satellites, and lead UK activities related to the European Space Agency's Far-infrared Outgoing Radiation Understanding and Monitoring (FORUM) mission, currently scheduled for launch in 2027.
I am a Divisional Director within the UK's National Centre for Earth Observation, with responsibility for research covering the Earth's energy and water cycles.
Education/Qualifications:
PhD in Atmospheric Physics from the Space and Atmospheric Physics Group, Imperial College London
BSc in Physics and Meteorology from the University of Reading
