BIO
Dr. Hakan Bagci is a Corporate Partnerships Executive at Imperial Enterprise, and a former Imperial College London PhD student, postdoctoral researcher and guest lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine Institute of Clinical Sciences, with expertise in molecular and cellular biology. During his academic career, Dr. Bagci co-authored research and review articles published in top-tier academic journals, including Nature, Cell, Nature Genetics, Cell Stem Cell, Molecular Cell, and Nature Communications.
During his Ph.D. studies, supervised by Professor Amanda Fisher, Dr. Bagci investigated the roles of DNA methylation in epigenetic reprogramming, and signalling pathways involved in stem cell renewal and differentiation.
For his postdoctoral studies, Dr. Bagci studied the roles of three dimensional chromatin reorganisation in the regulation of gene expression, under the supervision of Professor Matthias Merkenschlager. He was particularly interested in the cohesin protein complex, and used a range of molecular techniques, including epigenetics tools and CRISPR/Cas9-based genetic engineering, in in vitro and in vivo models, to delineate cohesin's functions.
In addition to academic research, Dr. Bagci worked as a consultant with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and is the founder and committee member of the Imperial Postdocs and Fellows Enterprise Network, a network of early career researchers that aims to raise awareness of opportunities in business and science-based entrepreneurship.
