BIO
Goran Strbac is a Professor of Energy Systems, with extensive experience in advanced modelling and analysis of operation, planning, security and economics of multi-energy systems. He led the development of novel advanced analysis approaches and methodologies that have been extensively used to inform industry, governments and regulatory bodies about the role and value of emerging new technologies and systems in supporting cost effective evolution to smart low carbon energy future. He is currently Co-director of the joint Imperial-Tsinghua Research Centre on Intelligent Power and Energy Systems, Member of the UK Smart System Forum, Member of the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Smart Networks for the Energy Transition, and Member of the Joint EU Programme in Energy Systems Integration of the European Energy Research Alliance. He co-authored 4 books and published over 500 technical papers.
Research areas
Whole-energy system modelling - Integration of multi-vector energy systems (electricity, hydrogen, transport, heating, etc.) , across operation and investment timescales & local district and national level infrastructures,
Energy market design - market for energy and flexibility services in low carbon systems, P2P trading, efficient network pricing, business models for decentralised operation and investment.
Integration of renewable energy sources – role and value of emerging technologies and systems in supporting cost effective integration of variable renewable generation, system integration costs.
Distributed energy resources - business case for energy storage technologies, value of flexible demand, vehicle to grid.
Security and resilience of future energy infrastructure – reliability performance of energy infrastructure, fundamental review of network operation and design standards.
Energy planning under uncertainties – design of future energy systems under multi-dimensional uncertainties; option value of flexible technologies.
