BIO

I am an Associate Professor in Control Theory at Imperial College London, where I am a member of the Control and Power Group and lead the MAC-X research group (Modelling, Analysis and Control of compleX systems). I am also Director of the MSc in Control and Optimisation.

My research lies at the intersection of mathematical control theory, applied mathematics and engineering. I work on the analysis, control and complexity reduction of dynamical systems, with particular interests in nonlinear systems, model order reduction, optimal control, data-driven control, hybrid and discontinuous systems, and differential-algebraic systems. A central theme of my research is understanding how complex dynamical models can be reduced, approximated or reorganised while preserving the properties that matter for analysis and control.

I lead an independent research group at Imperial and supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers working across these areas. Current research includes nonlinear model reduction, reduced-order modelling for control, data-driven methods, and the modelling and control of future power and energy systems. In particular, I am interested in inverter-based power systems, power electronics and renewable-energy applications, where increasingly complex dynamics create new challenges for modelling, stability analysis and control.

My work has been recognised with the 2023 IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology Outstanding Paper Award and the IET Control and Automation PhD Award. I serve as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and Automatica, and I have held a range of roles in the international control community, including serving on conference and award committees. I will also serve as General Co-Chair of the European Control Conference 2029.

Alongside research, I am strongly involved in teaching and scientific communication. At Imperial I teach advanced optimisation and control, and I develop educational material aimed at making mathematical and engineering ideas accessible to a broader audience. I also run a science and engineering YouTube channel covering topics in control, energy, mathematics and technology.
