TEACHING INTERESTS
Ged's teaching focus has been to ensure a comprehensive integration of clinical skills with communication skills. These changes included the first UK video based exam for year 1 medical students and a clinical encounter exam for year 2 students.
Ged is now joint domain lead (with Dr Karen Frame) on the new MBBS programme which has provided a more ambitious context for the integration of clinical teaching with communication skills training.Ged has also led on several education based projects at Imperial examining ways to improve communication skills training for medical students.
His teaching also encompasses postgraduate programmes where he was a module lead on the M.Sc. in patient safety (no longer running) and session lead on the M.Ed, in Surgical Education (no longer running). He has also designed and delivered the first UK communication skills training for Interventional radiologists. Outside of medical training, Ged has taught on Imperial's Horizons programme where he introduces students, from STEM backgrounds, to sociological ideas and concepts and their relevance for understanding developments within the fields of science and medicine
