BIO

Dr. Federica Re is an InnovateMD Clincial Research Fellow within Imperial's Health Impact Lab and an Internal Medicine Doctor in North West London. Her research focuses on cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention at the intersection between epidemiology, public health, and digital health.

Federica's research interests centre on leveraging large-scale healthcare data to evaluate preventive interventions, identify inequalities in healthcare access and outcomes, and develop evidence-based strategies to improve population health. She co-led the largest clinical and health economic evaluation of the NHS Health Check programme to date, using linked electronic health records from the London Secure Data Environment (SDE) to examine its long-term clinical impact and cost-effectiveness. Her work has been presented internationally, including at the European Society of Cardiology Congress (2026), and has informed policy recommendations to the UK Cabinet Office.

Federica's InnovateMD Fellowship focuses on developing and implementing data-driven approaches to improve the delivery of CVD prevention in primary care. Her work combines clinical risk prediction and healthcare engagement modelling to identify individuals at greatest risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes who are least likely to engage with preventive services. She aims to improve the uptake and equity of NHS Health Checks and support more proactive, personalised approaches to CVD prevention. Federica's wider research portfolio includes the application of artificial intelligence to electrocardiography (AI-ECG) and large-scale epidemiological studies using population biobanks, including UK Biobank, to investigate cardiovascular risk factors and health inequalities.

Before becoming a clinician, Federica worked in healthcare policy and strategy at NHS England, contributing to national programmes spanning health technology adoption, integrated care, and the COVID-19 pandemic response. Today, Federica combines her research with clinical practice as an Internal Medicine Trainee in North West London, having previously completed Academic Foundation Training. Her work is driven by an interest in translating epidemiological evidence and digital innovation into scalable, equitable improvements in clinical care and population health.
