BIO
Firdous Ul Nazir is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Electrical Power Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University. He also holds a post of Research Fellow (0.2FTE) at the Control and Power group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Imperial College London. His current research focuses on the challenges in voltage regulation for distribution networks hosting appreciable amount of solar photovoltaic. He is currently leading several projects funded by UKRI, and EU Horizon funding sources.
Firdous holds the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London. His Doctoral studies were partly funded by his Department at the Imperial and partly by the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation. His doctoral research pertains to the stochastic Volt/VAr and reactive power optimization in the radial distribution networks
Firdous completed the M.Tech degree in Power Systems from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India in 2015 and the B. Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Srinagar, India in 2012. He was the topper for both the B.Tech and M.Tech degrees and received gold medal in the undergraduate degree.
Firdous has served in the capacity of aviation officer in the biggest oil marketing company of India, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited from Sep 2012 to Jul 2013. He has also worked as a temporary faculty, for two terms, in the National Institute of Technology Srinagar, India between Mar 2016 to Sep 2016 and Aug 2015 to Dec 2015.
