Dr. Francisco Malaret's research focuses on developing sustainable industrial processes. He is currently working on producing advanced inorganic materials, such as metal oxides, ranging from nano to micro-sized particles, sustainably and cost-effectively using an innovative process called Oxidative Ionothermal Synthesis (OIS).

As the CEO of Nanomox Ltd., a spin-out from the Chemical Engineering Department at Imperial College London, Dr. Malaret is bringing this vision to life, pushing the boundaries of chemical engineering, green chemistry, and materials science. His interdisciplinary projects explore the potential of sustainable materials for innovations driving the green transition, including applications like zinc oxide for semiconductors, solar panels, and battery materials.

Dr. Malaret completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Jason Hallett at Imperial College London, focusing on using ionic liquids (ILs) for complex separations, such as lignocellulosic biomass fractionation and liquid-liquid extraction processes.

Before returning to academia, Dr. Malaret spent eight years as a senior process engineer in France, specializing in onshore LNG and FLNG projects for the oil and gas industry. His experience spans conceptual studies in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC).

Dr. Malaret holds a BScEng degree in chemical engineering and a BSc degree in chemistry, both cum laude, from Universidad Simón Bolívar in Venezuela, as well as an MS degree in oil refining from IFP School in France.
