Welcome to the Computational Chemical Physics Group at Imperial College London
We study the structure and dynamics of complex chemical interfaces—such as colloids, biopolymers, membranes, and nanomaterials—which underpin the behaviour of soft matter. These interfaces often confer unique properties to materials, driving a wide range of chemical processes.
A major focus of our work is transport phenomena at the nanoscale. We develop computational tools to quantify energy and mass transfer across interfaces and apply them to design advanced materials for energy management (e.g., super-insulating and highly conductive media) and nanomaterials for chemical and biomedical applications (e.g., catalysis and therapeutic technologies). We also explore novel concepts for energy conversion and recovery, including strategies for harvesting waste heat.
Our research extends to biological systems, investigating how proteins behave at interfaces and how nanoscale heat transfer influences mass transport in biomolecules and cellular structures. By modelling these effects, we aim to uncover fundamental principles of biological energy conversion and inspire new bio-based technologies.
We combine non-equilibrium and equilibrium simulations, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, and experimental approaches to advance the understanding of soft materials.
