MissElla White

I am a third year PhD student within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Imperial School of Public Health. My research is focused on how we can use wastewater surveillance to predict indicators of disease, including syndromic data. This involves applying Bayesian spatio-temporal methods to wastewater data on norovirus, SARS-CoV-2 and influenza. I am particularly interested in how we can integrate this type of data with health metrics to obtain interpretable and actionable outputs for public health decision-making. 

I am funded by Imperial School of Public Health, supervised by Professor Marta Blangiardo and Dr Monica Pirani.

Prior to my PhD, I completed an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. My thesis was focused on the spatial epidemiology of tuberculosis in Lima, Peru. I obtained my BSc in Medical Biosciences from Imperial.

Alongside my research, I work as graduate teaching assistant, assisting in the delivery of the MSc modules Introduction to Statistical Thinking and Data Analysis and Bayesian Reasoning and Methods for Spatio-temporal Data. I am also a Subwarden at Kemp Porter hall of residence.
