DrEmily Theokritoff

Dr. Emily Theokritoff is a Research Associate in Climate Damage Attribution at the Grantham Institute, Imperial College London. She leads the development of a global rapid event impact attribution framework, which quantifies the share of additional human impacts caused by climate change during extreme weather events such as heatwaves and storms. She is also a Lead Author of the 7th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), contributing to Working Group II Chapter 3 on current adaptation progress, effectiveness, and adequacy.

She obtained her PhD from the Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany) in 2023, during which she took part in the Graduate Program of the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys). She researched constraints and limits to climate change adaptation, with a particular focus on vulnerable regions such as Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Between 2019 and 2021, she participated in the Global Adaptation Mapping Initiative (GAMI), a collaborative network for mapping global evidence on climate change adaptation. Emily has contributed to the IPCC's AR6 Working Group II Report (Chapter 16) and to a number of climate litigation cases around the world. She also serves as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the scientific journal Regional Environmental Change (REEC).

Before joining the Grantham Institute, Emily worked for 6.5 years at the climate science and policy institute Climate Analytics, where she conducted qualitative and quantitative research on the topics of adaptation, loss and damage and climate change impacts and engaged in various activities at the science-policy interface.

She also holds a Master in Environmental Engineering from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from the University of Warwick (UK).
