BIO

As Manager of the Centre for Societal Engagement, Ed leads on a strategic initiative encompassing schools outreach, public & community engagement, and patient & public involvement with the aim of optimising Imperial's ability to achieve societal impact. Working within Imperial and through collaborations with civic organisations, community groups and public participants, the aim is to make STEMB opportunities more inclusive of the societies of which they are a part and to position Imperial as a global leader in societal engagement.

Ed joined Imperial in May 2026 and brings over 15 years experience of working at the intersection of universities and society. Prior to Imperial, Ed established and led a societal impact function in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at King's College London and secured a £750k impact acceleration account to build a culture of engaged research across the faculty. He has also held the position of Deputy Head of Public Engagement at the University of Bath and earlier in his career, worked in STEM widening participation and as a student volunteer manager.

Ed has particular expertise in participatory research. His doctorate explored community-based participatory research projects as learning spaces that transform the professional identities of those involved in ways that either enhance or delimit societal impact. Ed is a Visiting Impact Fellow of the Global Cultures Institute at King's College London and an alumnus of the Westminster Abbey Institute Fellows' Programme.
