Miss Emma Rose McGlone (FRCS PhD) is an NIHR-funded Clinical Lecturer in the department of Surgery and Cancer. She is a Post-CCT clinical fellow in general surgery with a specialist interest in bariatric/ metabolic surgery.
Her research focuses on investigating the role of metabolic surgery in improvement of metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and diabetes; in particular the contribution of improved glucagon signalling. She also uses large datasets to investigate the effects of metabolic surgery on clinical outcomes, health-related quality of life and healthcare costs.
During her PhD she was awarded a grant from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a MRC clinical research training fellowship. She has received support from the Society for Endocrinology with an early career grant. She has also been awarded a Starter grant for Clinical Lecturers by the Academy of Medical Sciences.
She has recently been awarded a Wellcome Discovery Award with collaborators to investigate how cholesterol modulates glucagon and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor signalling, with implications for the treatment of MASLD.
