RESEARCH
Overview
Royal Society, EPSRC, BBSRC, FSRF, Human Frontier Science Program, Wellcome
In the Dept. of Bioengineering Dr. Drakakis has founded the Bioinspired VLSI Circuits and Systems Group, whose research activities revolve around two axes:
a) "Circuits FOR Biology"
(inspiration drawn by the need for innovative instrumentation as dictated by a specific biological problem or application), and
b) "Circuits FROM Biology"
(inspiration drawn by operational, architectural and/or anatomical characteristics encountered in natural information processing systems).
Selected Areas of Recent Research Activity
- Ultra Low Power Cytomimetic Circuits
- Microprobes for Fly Neural Recordings
- Ultra Low Power Ultra High DynamicRange Log-domain Cochlear Implant/Bionic Ear Processors
- Auditory Modelling for CI Architecture & Stimulation Strategy Assessment
- Cellular-Nonlinear-Network Processors for Vision
- Memristors
- Ultra Low Power Ormia-Ochracea-inspired Delay Magnification Circuits
- Optobionic Imagers & Stimulators
- Ultra Low Power Ultra High DynamicRange Hyperbolic Sine Filters for ECG front-ends
- Ultra Low Power Integrated Pulse oximetry Front-ends
- Spatiotemporal Physiological Monitoring of Cell Cultures
