Past-President of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) Sep 24-Sep 26
Her main clinical interests are peritoneal dialysis and advanced kidney care. She has published extensively on peritoneal dialysis, outcomes of older people on dialysis and renal palliative care and has over 200 publications. She has been the principal investigator of several multicentre studies: EAPOS (European APD Outcome Study); BOLDE (Broadening Options for Long-term Dialysis in the Elderly) and FEPOD (Frail Elderly Patient Outcomes on Dialysis). Her current study is Kidney Transplantation in Older People (KTOP) which was completed during 2023. She co-chaired the ISPD guideline committee (2014-2020) and chaired the group developing the 2020 guideline on ‘Prescribing high quality, goal-directed peritoneal dialysis’. She co-chaired the KDIGO controversies conference on symptom-based complications in dialysis in May 2022. She has been awarded a Fellowship of the European Renal Association and an honorary membership of the UK Kidney Association. She is on the American Society of Nephrology Education Committee for Kidney Week 2024 and 2025. Her aims as president of ISPD (2022-2024) were to promote equity of access to and increase availability of peritoneal dialysis in both high and low income countries. To this end, she has formed the International Home Dialysis Consortium joint with the International Society of Nephrology as a combined effort to counteract the distortions in healthcare delivery introduced by national politics, industry and local healthcare organization.
