BIO

Cells are enclosed within a plasma membrane that provides them with identity and ability to regulate the exchange of information into and out of the cell. Any perturbation to this process can lead to health disorders. Such an intricate yet highly coordinated mechanism is deeply intriguing, and I have long been fascinated by this aspect of biology. This function is carried out by myriad of receptors and lipids that are dynamic yet organised into distinct architecture. In isolation, these receptors rarely trigger any function; however, their interactions with other membrane components create signaling hubs. Because these molecular events occur at fast temporal (millisecond) and spatial (nanometre) scales, conventional fluorescence microscopy cannot fully resolve them. Therefore, I use advanced microscopy and spectroscopic techniques, such as fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) and super-resolution nanoscopy methods (e.g., STED and STORM), in my research for decoding this molecular language.
