As an educator, she teaches core financial and management accounting on Imperial's Full-time MBA and across the School's wider MBA portfolio, including its global online and executive routes, where her modules are consistently rated among the programme's best. She teaches on MSc programmes including in finance and global health management, and at undergraduate level on the Joint Honours and Intercalated BSc routes, through which medical, science and engineering students take their year in management. Her teaching builds intuition before technique, using narrative, analogy and the analysis of real company financial statements to make accounting accessible to every audience, from students encountering the subject for the first time to experienced finance professionals.
As an academic leader, she has held undergraduate leadership roles for twelve years: Academic Director of the BSc Accounting and Finance at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass) for ten years, during which the Guardian University Guide ranked the school 4th in the UK for Accounting and Finance, Academic Director of the BSc International Business, Finance and Economics at Alliance Manchester Business School, and Admissions Tutor of Imperial's BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science.
As a consultant and executive educator with two decades of experience, she designs and delivers programmes that build financial acumen in professionals and leaders outside finance as well as within it. She created the open programme Finance for Non-Financial Leaders and bespoke programmes for organisations including BP, McDonald's, Inmarsat, Fuller's, HCA UK and Odgers Berndtson, and has taught degree and executive programmes in ten countries and territories across four continents, including ten cohorts of Executive MBA and Global MBA students in Dubai. Her executive teaching has spanned audiences from senior military officers and medical professionals to compliance and trusts and estates executives. She is currently writing a book on demystifying the language of finance and building financial acumen.
She also contributes to the development of other educators. She authored the Business School's IB Knowledge essay "What Academics Need to Know About Teaching", contributes to Imperial's Talking Teaching series, and has delivered invited teaching workshops at HEC Paris, the Stockholm School of Economics, Simon Fraser University and Manchester Metropolitan University, as well as a national workshop on engaging large classes funded by the Higher Education Academy. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a graduate of the International Teachers Programme.
Before joining Imperial in July 2023, she was Associate Professor of Accounting at Bayes Business School (2013 to 2023), Assistant Professor in Accounting (2008 to 2013) and Marie Curie Fellow (2005 to 2008) at Alliance Manchester Business School, and a visiting professor at EDHEC Business School in France. She holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester.
