DrDanielle Lyssimachou

Dr Danielle Lyssimachou is a multi-award-winning educator, academic leader and consultant in the field of Accounting. Prior to joining the Finance Department of Imperial Business School in July 2023 as a Professorial Teaching Fellow in Accounting, Dr Lyssimachou was an Associate Professor of Accounting at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass) (2013 – 2023), and an Assistant Professor in Accounting (2008 – 2013) and Marie Curie Fellow (2005 – 2008) at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester. During 2009 – 2013, Dr Lyssimachou was a visiting professor at EDHEC Business School, France.

Dr Lyssimachou holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester, a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and has completed the International Teachers Programme at HEC Paris. Dr Lyssimachou’s research has been published in top academic journals, including The Accounting Review (an FT50 journal), Abacus, International Review of Financial Analysis, Tourism Economics.

In her two-decade-long academic career, Dr Lyssimachou has excelled both as an educator and an academic leader. She has led accounting modules at BSc, MSc, MBA and Executive Education levels and in diverse international settings, including the USA, UK, UAE, France, Channel Islands, Russia, Azerbaijan and Indonesia, earning exceptional teaching scores. Dr Lyssimachou has made significant contributions to executive education, designing open programmes like "Finance for Non-Financial Leaders" and tailored programmes for global industry giants like Inmarsat, BP, McDonald’s, HCA UK and Fuller’s. She has also delivered specialised accounting & finance courses for senior-ranked military officers, medical professionals, compliance and trusts & estates executives, and executive MBA audiences in Dubai.

Dr Lyssimachou has held academic leadership posts for 12 years. Most recently, she was the Admissions Tutor for the BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science degree at Imperial Business School during the academic year 2023-24. Previously, Dr Lyssimachou was the Academic Director of the BSc Accounting & Finance degree at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass) for 10 years and the Academic Director of the BSc in International Business, Finance and Economics degree at Alliance Manchester Business School for 1 year. As the academic leader of the BSc Accounting & Finance degree at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass), Dr Lyssimachou spearheaded major module restructuring projects to enhance the accounting teaching provision at undergraduate level and introduced initiatives to improve the student experience. Her leadership significantly contributed to improving student satisfaction and firmly establishing the degree among the best in its field.

Beyond the classroom, Dr Lyssimachou has established herself as a thought leader in teaching and learning practices. She has disseminated best practices at local, national, and international levels through various avenues, including workshops, blog posts, training activities, and a keynote speech. Her contributions include leading a national workshop on student engagement and personalising learning in large classes and delivering faculty workshops on inspiring lectures and boosting student engagement around the world, including institutions in Canada, Sweden, France, and the UK.
