BIO

Céire Costelloe is Chair in Health Informatics at Imperial College London’s School of Public Health and Visiting Professor of Health Informatics at the Institute of Cancer Research. She specialises in medical statistics and digital health, applying real-world healthcare data to improve patient outcomes and inform health policy.

Her research focuses on digital health innovation, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and infectious disease surveillance. At Imperial, she led the Global Digital Health Unit, developing data-driven solutions for clinical practice. She has held consecutive NIHR fellowships, including a prestigious Career Development Fellowship, where she advanced methods for evaluating healthcare interventions using observational data and causal inference methodology. Céire also leads NIHR-funded research on sepsis, creating predictive models and digital tools to support early diagnosis and improve patient care. Industry collaborations include NIHR and Wellcome Trust funded research in partnership with Wysa, exploring the role of app-based and AI-driven mental health support tools in improving patient engagement and outcomes.

She contributes to global health through the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Digital Diagnostics for African Health Systems (DiDA), supporting efforts to integrate diagnostic data into health systems and enable real-time insights for disease surveillance.

Céire earned her PhD in Immunology from Trinity College Dublin and an MSc in Medical Statistics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. A Chartered Statistician, her work has influenced UK and EU antibiotic prescribing guidelines and informed digital health innovations such as patient portals and NHS app evaluations.
