Cairan Van Rooyen is a Research Fellow in the School of Public Health, working at the intersection of the built environment, energy, health, and climate. His research examines how the buildings we live in shape our health and wellbeing, with a particular focus on indoor environmental quality and the implications of retrofitting the UK's housing stock toward net zero.

Combining building physics with epidemiological methods, his work draws on cohort data, complex statistical modelling, and health impact assessment to quantify how exposures such as indoor temperature and air quality affect long-term health outcomes. He holds a PhD in building physics.
