DrCarolina Rosadas de Oliveira

I am keen to support improving access to diagnostics and to help advancing the public health response to neglected infections.

My main research focus is HTLV, a sexually transmitted infection which disproportionally affects communities with low human development index. I am particularly interested in optimising diagnosis of infection and its associated diseases and to prevent transmission.

I am currently the lead consultant on HTLV at the World Health Organization and I am part of WHO HTLV Guideline Steering Committee. I have been supporting the Pan-American Health Organization to build the response to HTLV, particularly in the context of mother-to-child transmission.

I have been working extensively with the Brazilian Ministry of Health to support evidence-based public health response to HTLV. I am currently a member of the Brazilian Ministry of Health`s National Validation Commission – CNV, of the process of Certification of the Elimination of Vertical Transmission of HIV, Syphilis and/or Hepatitis B in Brazil. I am also part of different Technical Advisory Committees of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, including Sexually Transmitted Infections; Vertical transmission; and HTLV.

I am passionate about science communication and community engagement. I have co-founded a social media platform, HTLV Channel, to increase awareness about this virus, share research findings to community, empower civil society and promote inter-sectoral collaboration.
