The neuromuscular systems of limbed vertebrates, including humans, solve a profoundly difficult task – they control multi-jointed limbs with accuracy, robustness and speed. My group studies how their performance is governed by interactions of anatomical and physiological properties, and how their properties change with age to diminish performance. We use a range of methodologies (in vivo, bio-robotic, bio-mechatronic, computational) to pursue two strands of work: frog locomotion and goal-directed reaching.
I recently joined the Bioengineering department as an Associate Professor at Imperial in January, 2026. Previously, I worked as a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) since joining there as an ERC research fellow in 2014. Prior to that, I was a Rowland Junior Fellow (Rowland Institute, Harvard) from 2009-2014. I earned my Phd at the Concord Field Station at Harvard in 2009 working with Prof. Andy Biewener. For undergraduate, I studied Violin Performance and Biology at Oberlin College (Ohio, USA).
