Catherine's research focuses on the intersection of digital technologies and societal transformation, with particular emphasis on how emerging innovations can drive resilience, sustainability, and trust in critical systems. Her interdisciplinary approach spans:
Digital Transformation and the economic and societal impacts of digital technologies, including how they reshape industries, governance, and citizen engagement.

* Cybersecurity and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs), such as blockchain, and their role in establishing trust and transparency in digital ecosystems, from finance to government to smart cities.
* Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics, particularly their role in enabling predictive decision-making, anomaly detection, and the automation of processes across industries and critical infrastructure. Catherine explores how AI can enhance resilience, efficiency, and adaptability in both private and public sector contexts.
* Data Governance and the ethical management of large-scale data systems, including privacy, security, and the equitable distribution of digital benefits across society.
* Cryptocurrency and the evolution of decentralized financial systems, including their regulatory and policy implications.
Smart and Sustainable Cities, particularly how digital technologies, AI, and data-driven approaches can create more equitable, secure, and sustainable urban environments.
