DrChang Cai

I work as a Research Associate at the Small Area Health Statistics Unit in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. My project is to evaluate the health impact of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone on children and young people with asthma. This project is led by Dr Bethan Davies and is part of the Public Health Impacts of UK's Clean Air Zones (PHICAZ) project. I am funded by the MRC Centre for Environment and Health and NIHR Health Protection Research Units in Environmental Exposures and Health.

I completed my PhD at the Department of Primary Care and Public Health, School of Public Health. I was under the supervision of Professor Christopher Millett and Dr Thomas Hone. My PhD project evaluated the impacts of China's primary health care reforms since 2009 on the health system and health outcomes. During my PhD, I collaborated with researchers from the George Institute for Global Health in Australia and China, Peking University, and Harbin Medical University. I was engaged in a chronic disease management project in rural China, the SAPPHIRE project, led by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the George Institute for Global Health.
