Chaima Abdellaoui is an enthusiastic Research Assistant investigating environmental drivers of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) from a One Health perspective at Imperial College London. Since joining in June 2026, she contributes to a Fleming Initiative project focused on understanding and forecasting AMR, with a particular emphasis on Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species.

Before joining Imperial, Chaima spent more than two and a half years in the Walsh Group at the University of Oxford. She studied clinical AMR across a broad range of microorganisms, with a special focus on ESKAPE pathogens and Candida species. This work spanned 17 hospitals across seven countries, contributing to a better understanding of the global impact of AMR.

Earlier in her career, Chaima investigated multidrug-resistant Enterococcus in animal settings and studied the genetic diversity of mycobacteria at the Pasteur Institute of Tunis.

Her research spans the clinical, animal, and environmental dimensions of AMR, reflecting a One Health approach to understanding the emergence, transmission, surveillance, and control of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens.

Alongside her research, Chaima has a genuine passion for teaching and sharing knowledge. At the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, she taught microbiology and immunology practicals to medical and biological sciences students — finding real joy in sparking curiosity and helping students connect foundational concepts to real-world challenges in infectious disease and global health.
