BIO
Boyu completed his PhD in the Volatile Biomarker Research Group under the supervision of Prof. George Hanna and Prof. Hashim Ahmed in the Division of Surgery, Imperial College London. His doctoral research focused on the non-invasive diagnosis of urological cancers via detecting volatile organic compound (VOC) biomarkers.
His work involved the detection of VOC biomarkers in cell culture media and urine samples using HiSorb-GC(xGC)-ToF-MS, along with validation of VOC signatures in cells and tissue through molecular biology techniques. The primary aim of his PhD was to establish a comprehensive profile of VOC biomarkers relevant to urological cancers.
Boyu received his BSc (Hon) in Biomedical Science from King’s College London, and obtained a joint MRes degree from King’s and the University of Bristol. His earlier research explored gene and protein expression related to Wnt signaling pathways in prostate cancer and congenital bladder abnormalities.
