Bashar Nuseibeh is Executive Dean of Science & Technology at City St George's, University of London and Emeritus Professor of Computing at The Open University (Director of Research 2001-2008). He serves as Research Pillar Chair of Resposible Ai UK and is an Adjunct Professor of Software & Systems at Trinity College Dublin.

Between 1990-2000, Bashar was a PhD student, Lecturer, and then Reader in Computing at Imperial College London, and was Head of its Software Engineering Laboratory and Director of its Centre for Systems Requirements Engineering. He was subsequently a Visiting Professor at Imperial between 2005-2015 and then again since 2026.

Bashar was a Professor of Computing at The Open University between 2001-2026, and was a Professor of Software Engineering and at Lero - The Irish Software Research Centre, serving as its innaugural Chief Scientist between 2009-2012 and then again 2017-2023.

Bashar is a Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Informatics (NII), Tokyo, Japan, and at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, and is an Honorary Professor at University College London.

Bashar's research interests lie at the intersection of requirements engineering, adaptive systems, and security and privacy. He served as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, of ACM Transactions on Autonomous & Adaptive Systems, and of the Automated Software Engineering Journal. He also served as Software Engineering Editor of ACM Books,  chaired the Steering Committee of the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) and  chaired IFIP Working Group 2.9 on Requirements Engineering.

He received an ICSE Most Influential Paper Award, a Philip Leverhulme Prize, an Automated Software Engineering Fellowship, and a Senior Research Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering. His research work crosses a number of discipline boundaries in computing, and has received best paper/artefact awards in software engineering (e.g., best paper at RE), Logic Programming (e.g. best application paper at ICLP), Human-Computer Interaction (e.g. best research video at CHI), natural language processing (e.g., best paper and tool at MedNLP), and security & privacy (e.g. best paper at TrustCom 2014). He received a Royal Society-Wolfson Merit Award and was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant on Adaptive Security and Privacy. He is the recipient of the 2025 Harlan D Mills Award.
