BIO

Ben Condry is an Associate Director of the Transport Strategy Centre (TSC) within the Centre for Transport Studies at Imperial College London. As Head of Rail, he leads the TSC's international railway benchmarking groups as well as other railway and public transport related projects within the TSC. This work includes the ISBeRG international suburban railway benchmarking group, the International Mainline Rail Benchmarking Group (IMRBG) and the Railway Infrastructure Asset Management Benchmarking Group (RIAMBG) which are conducted on behalf of many of the world's major railway operators and infrastructure providers.

Ben has over 20 years' experience in rail and other public transport covering of a broad range aspects including benchmarking, policy, management strategy, operational analysis, demand forecasting and modelling, economic appraisal, financial & revenue analysis and survey techniques. After starting out in railway planning consultancy, when he worked on business cases for rail schemes including the London Overground and domestic services on the High Speed 1 rail link, Ben first joined TSC at Imperial College London in 2003.

Between 2007 and 2012 he worked for the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC; now known as the Rail Delivery Group), both within the Policy & Regulation team and as the Passenger Demand Forecasting Scheme Manager. At ATOC, lead the industry-wide research programme into the factors influencing demand for rail travel as well as conducing strategic analysis of the rail industry. This combination of experience enables him to apply direct knowledge of the public transport industry, and specifically railways, to his research at the TSC, which he re-joined in 2012.
