BIO
Membrane proteins have major roles in a wide range of biological functions including uptake of essential nutrients, export of toxins and waste products and mediating the cellular responses to a variety of biologically active molecules including many drugs. Our understanding of these important proteins is currently limited by a lack of high resolution structures. Our research group is focused on increasing knowlege of in particular eukaryotic membrane protein structure and function, with emphasis on transporters and receptors. An additional strand of research, carried out in collaboration with Professor Sergei Kazarian in the Department of Chemical Engineering focuses on the use of advanced vibrational spectroscopy techniques to explore various aspects of therapeutic antibody behaviour.
The research activities of the laboratory are/have been funded by BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC, GlaxoSmithKline, DSTL, EU FP7 and H2020.
