MrAws Almukhtar

Mr Aws Almukhtar is an academic surgeon and NIHR Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London, combining frontline NHS surgical practice with rigorous research to advance healthcare sustainability and quality. He is also an Oncoplastic Breast Surgery trainee in the North West London Deanery and an Honorary Simulation Fellow. He graduated from the Jordan University of Science and Technology with Distinction and holds postgraduate qualifications from Imperial College London and the University of Oxford.

His research focuses on transforming surgical services by developing and evaluating practical, evidence-based solutions that reduce environmental impact while strengthening safety, quality, and efficiency. He integrates behavioural science, simulation, and clinical insight to understand why change is challenging in operating theatres and to design interventions that are effective in real-world settings. He has established a focused research programme at the interface of surgery, simulation, and behavioural science. His current NIHR-supported research advances the use of surgical simulation as an innovation test-bed to develop and de-risk and maximise the impact of behaviour change interventions to imporve sustainability in operating theatres.

Alongside his research, he delivers education and leads advocacy for innovation and sustainability in surgical practice. He contributes to the Mammary Fold Academic Committee and champions sustainability with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, advancing national efforts through his contributions to sustainable surgical care.
