BIO

Dr Archana Gopalakrishnan is a Clinical Research Fellow for the IP9-ATLAS active surveillance trial and PhD Candidate at Imperial College London. She works as part of the Imperial Prostate (IP) group, under the supervision of Professor Hashim U. Ahmed and Mr Taimur Shah.

Clinically, she is a Urology Resident in Switzerland. She graduated from the University of Geneva, Switzerland in 2020 and has since had clinical experience in various surgical specialities, including General Surgery, Abdominal Transplantation and Urology.

Her primary research interests focus on prostate cancer and active surveillance, a management option for men with localised prostate cancer, following them up and proceeding to treatment when the cancer progresses rather than at diagnosis.

IP9-ATLAS is a multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing the current UK NICE-guided standard of care with a regular MRI-based active surveillance pathway, aiming to determine which strategy more effectively detects cancer progression over 5 years. Alongside this, she is involved in registry-based studies and other trials, including IP7-PACIFIC and IB1-LASERComplete (bladder cancer). She has presented work internationally and has been awarded an RSM Malcolm Coptcoat prize for her work on IB1-LASERComplete as well as an Early Career Researcher Showcase Award for her presentation on IP9-ATLAS.
