BIO
I lead the Electrochemical Systems Laboratory research group.
My principal interests and expertise are in the science and engineering of electrochemical energy conversion, CO2 reduction and separation processes for industrial effluent treatment and material recycling. My academic research projects are aimed at solving industrial problems and involve experimental and numerical modelling components and our strategy is to progress from theoretical assessments of a given problem, to small-scale experimental investigations and process modelling and then on to system design, operation, characterisation and scale-up.
Areas of expertise:
- Electrochemical energy conversion
- Water splitting & CO2 reduction
- Experimental characterisation of semiconductor | electrolyte interfaces
- Micro-kinetic modelling of (photo-)electrochemical processes
- Design, characterisation and modelling of scaled (photo-)electrochemical reactor systems
- Metal recovery by electrodeposition
- CO2 utilisation in carbon nanotube synthesis
I am currently active in the following roles:
- Lead of the Imperial College Electrochemistry Network together with Dr Clotilde Cucinotta and Dr Nuria Tapia Ruiz (Chemistry)
- Co-director of the MRes course in Molecular Engineering at the Institute of Molecular Science and Engineering at Imperial
- Outreach co-ordinator at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial
- Associate Editor for Frontiers in Electrochemical Engineering
- Secretary of the Sustainability Special Interest Group at IChemE
- Elected member of the Electrochemistry Special Interest Group at the Royal Society of Chemistry
- Advisory Board member of the UK Solar Chemicals Network
