BIO

Alex T. J. Ranne is a Research Associate at the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

His research interests are in the development of sub-millimeter intelligent surgical instruments and machine learning/deep learning workflows for endoluminal surgery. His current work involves integrating learning-based, image-guided interventions into colonoscopy procedures.

Alex graduated from Imperial College London with a first-class honours in MEng Mechanical Engineering, and a PhD in AI and Surgical Robotics, awarded by the Department of Computing (AI4Health CDT) and the Hamlyn Centre. As part of his undergraduate degree, he worked as an undergraduate researcher in the REDS lab in the Dyson School of Design Engineering, where he researched Augmented Reality-guided Human-Robot Interaction.
