BIO

Dr Aaran Patel is an honorary clinical research assistant in the Section of Endocrinology and Investigative Medicine at Imperial College London and an Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus specialty registrar in North West London. His research interests are in reproductive endocrinology and the neuroendocrine control of reproductive health.

Aaran completed his undergraduate MBBS degree at Imperial College School of Medicine and graduated in 2020 with Distinctions in Medical Sciences, Clinical Science and Clinical Practice. During this time he also completed an intercalated BSc in Medical Sciences with Endocrinology, achieving 1st class honours and being awarded a Society for Endocrinology Undergraduate Achievement Award for his BSc project under the supervision of Professor Waljit Dhillo and Dr Ali Abbara investigating recombinant FSH dosing requirement for follicle growth in IVF treatment. He was awarded the Society for Endocrinology Highly Commended Clinical Poster Prize at BES 2018 for presenting this work.

Aaran undertook his foundation training at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust where he held an Academic Foundation Programme post in Endocrinology at the Warwickshire Institute for the Study of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (WISDEM) under the supervision of Professor Harpal Randeva. During this time he was awarded the Young Diabetologists and Endocrinologists Forum Marjorie Prize for his reflections and work addressing inequalities in diabetes care.

Aaran completed internal medicine training at Hammersmith Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. During this time he was awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship to continue pursuing his research interests under the supervision of Professor Waljit Dhillo and Dr Ali Abbara within the Section of Endocrinology and Investigative Medicine at Imperial College London.

Aaran is now undertaking higher specialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetes Mellitus and General Internal Medicine at hospitals in the North West London training programme, including at Charing Cross Hospital.

 

Alongside his clinical and research commitments, Aaran regularly supports with teaching activities. He provides teaching for medical students on placement at Imperial College School of Medicine. He also contributes to the delivery of medical assmessments, having examined for Year 2 and 3 Clinical Exams and written scenarios for the Year 6 CPSA. He is also a tutor for Ealing PACES, assisting resident doctors preparing for the MRCP examinations.

 

Aaran is also a committee member for the Young Diabetologists and Endocrinologists Forum (YDEF), supporting with the organisation and running of courses for endocrinology and diabetes trainees.
