During his doctoral research at CSIR–CCMB, Hyderabad, Anand investigated the biochemical properties and protein–protein interactions of several calcium sensor proteins, including Secretagogin (SCGN).

In 2019, he joined ETH Zurich as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Prof. Christian Wolfrum. His work on multiple aspects of metabolic regulation has been innovative, productive, and impactful. His postdoctoral research focused broadly on the regulation and physiology of futile lipid cycling and its role in non-shivering thermogenesis and metabolic homeostasis.

On January 1, 2025, Anand joined Imperial College London as a full-time faculty member. He has served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Imperial since October 1, 2025.
