ProfessorAlejandro Jose Roman Molinas

Prof. Alejandro Román is a senior leader working at the interface of space, technology, policy, and education, with over 25 years of experience across information technology, civil aviation, and the space sector. He currently serves as General Director of Execution and Aerospace Development at the Paraguayan Space Agency, where he leads national initiatives in Earth Observation, GIS, GNSS, AI, and the application of space technologies to sustainable development.

He is Chair of the Emerging Countries Committee (IAF ACCESS) at the International Astronautical Federation, GEO Principal for Paraguay, Co-Chair of the GEO Post-2025 Working Group, and a member of the Group on Earth Observations Executive Committee, contributing to global space governance and international cooperation. He is appointed as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London (ICL), supporting research and collaboration at the interface of navigation, Earth Observation, and artificial intelligence.

An accomplished academic, Prof. Román teaches undergraduate and graduate programmes at UNIDA University in Paraguay, and has received several international recognitions, including the Technology Excellence Award (India, 2021). His previous roles include more than a decade as IT Manager at Paraguay’s Civil Aviation Authority and Academic Coordinator at UNIDA’s School of Engineering. He is a Full Member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), elected as an Associated Fellow at the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN), and a member of the Spanish Network of Planetology and Astrobiology (REDESPA).

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Analysis, an MBA, and a Master’s degree in Risk Management and Climate Governance, alongside postgraduate specialisations in Higher Education, Geographic Information Systems, and Remote Sensing. He has completed executive and technical training with Oxford, MIT, and Harvard, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Education Sciences. His work focuses on leveraging space and digital technologies to support evidence-based policy, resilience, and capacity building in emerging economies.
